The Military under the Koran
Throughout Muhammad's life he was both a religious and military leader. Most of the Caliphs also served with him in battle. Muhammad saw war as a way to improve ones self and the community. He influenced the treatment of prisoners of war, and was against killing innocent civilians, and wanted respectful treatment towards enemy corpses. The greater and lesser Jihad encompass the reasons of war and why it is essential to spreading the Islam religion. Muhammad accepted war and his goal was to expand his religion through the Koran and the one way to do that was to devide and conquer other nations and take more people under their power. As long as they were fighting others to protect their religion, under the Koran that is considered acceptible.
''If God finds some good in your hearts, He will reward you with something better than was taken away from you, and forgive your sins, for God is forgiving and kind." (Koran 8:70)
This quote from the Koran outlines the lives of the people that are conquered through the Muslims conquests. It is telling the civilians that even though they have been conquered and have nearly nothing left, if they believe in god it will lead them down the right path. I believe it is implying that the reward might be converting to the Islam faith and in turn being accepted by god and his followers.
In an interview with Imam: Aiman, from a Mosque, the question 'What made Islam suddenly so popular?' was asked. He kindly answered, "Islam offers a lot for the individual, including a functional and real world view that provides hope and allows a person to take benefit and
often understand both the eases and difficulties of this life. It provides guidance for a fair government and economy, including justice in trading and in courts. Islam is not the friend of tyrannical oppressors or the unjust; rather it is the friend of the common people and those who want to live fairly and in peace. Therefore, even while many leaders fought against Islam, many populations preferred Islam."
This quote expresses the reason for so many Islam converts during the time of Muhammad and the 5 Caliphs. The Islam religion outlines the goals of daily life and helps one to understand the meaning of life. The Koran outlines many of the most important factors to a civilization as stated in this interview such as the government and economic policies which include trading and court. This keeps everything fair and just with the practitioners of Islam and the benefit of no separation between Church and State is a key reason to the success of the Islam religion.
